JEE (Main) 2016 - Description of Test

JEE Main is a national level entrance exam for the admission to engineering and technological courses offered by various government, private and funded institutions including the NITs and IIITs.

 

The JEE (Joint Entrance Exam) involves two stages The first stage is JEE Main, which is gateway to the B.Tech courses offered by the institutes including NITs and IIITs.

The candidates who qualify the JEE Main would be eligible for the JEE Advanced 2016 entrance test (22nd May 2016) which is a gateway for the B.Tech courses offered by the IITs.

 

JEE (Main) Eligibility

The candidates are advised to read the following eligibility criteria before applying the JEE Main 2016:

Date of Birth:

Date of birth as per the secondary education board will only be considered. The general and OBC candidates must have their D.O.B on or after 1st October 1991 and the SC/ST/PwD candidates must have their D.O.B on or after 1st October 1986. There is no minimum age limit for the JEE Main 2016.

For the admission to Maharashtra and Odisha the age will be considered as per past admission process in their states through the state level exam.

JEE (Main) 2016​ Qualification:

The candidates must be passed or appearing the 12th or its equivalent examination from a recognized board with minimum 50% in PCM group core subjects. Candidates who have passed the qualifying exam before 2014 will not be eligible to take this exam. Candidates, who appeared the qualifying exam in 2013 but did not pass in same year and passed in 2014, will not be eligible. Improvement exam will be considered if the candidates  appear in all 5 subjects as per the scheme of study.

Only three attempts are approved for appearing the JEE Main exam. For the admission to Maharashtra and Odisha the attempts will be considered as the past admission process in their states through the state level exam.

How to apply for JEE Main 2016

To apply for JEE Main 2016, candidates have to first register by creating a password. The password must be between 8 to 13 characters, and it must contain a capital letter, a small case letter, a special character and a number.

They need to follow below-mentioned steps to apply online

Step 1: Candidates have to download the information bulletin and read all the instructions carefully to ensure that they fulfill all the eligibility criteria and keep all the documents ready before applying online.

Step 2: Scanned images of a candidate's Photograph, Signature and Left Hand Thumb impression should be kept ready in JPG format before filling JEE Main 2016 Application Form.

Step 3: After filling the application form, candidates should upload all the scanned images.

Step 4: After submitting the Application Form, candidates are required to pay the fee by Debit/Credit Card or through e-challan (which will be generated after submission of JEE Main 2016 Application Form)

Step 5: After fee submission, candidates must download the acknowledgment slip and preserve it very carefully for future reference.

JEE Main 2016 Important Dates

  • JEE Main online application starts from – 1st December 2015
  • JEE Main online application last date – 31th December 2015
  • Availability of JEE Main admit card 2016 – first week of March 2016 (onwards)
  • JEE Main pen and paper based test – 3rd April, 2016 (Sunday)
  • JEE Main Computer based Paper – 9th & 10th April 2016 (Saturday & Sunday)
  • Correction period – two weeks in second half of January 2016
  • Display of Answer Key and OMR Sheet – fourth week of April 2016
  • JEE Main Result 2016 Declaration (paper 1 & paper 2) – first week of July 2016
  • Availability of score/rank cards – After the Declaration of AIR, JEE Main rank

JEE Main 2016 Correction

If any candidate has committed the mistake in the application form like providing wrong personal details, educational details, thumb impression or any other (scanned photograph) can be corrected by visiting the official website of the JEE main.

Remember that it will be the  last chance for the errors made, so you need to be very careful about that.

Joint Entrance Exam Pattern

JEE Main 2016 will be comprised of two papers. The candidates seeking for the B.Tech/B.E must avail the paper 1 or the candidates seeking for the B.Arch/B.Planning must avail the paper 2.

Architecture candidates must have a valid score card of NATA 2016. Candidates can apply for the both papers. The paper 1 containing objective type questions on the subjects Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The paper 2 containing three parts. The part one containing objective type questions on Mathematics subject, part 2 containing objective type questions on aptitude skills and part three will be drawing test.

Paper one will be held through the both; computer based and pen & paper based exam while paper two will be held through the pen and paper based exam mode only. Both papers duration will be of 3 hours each. There will be total 90 questions in paper 1  and each correct answer carries 4 marks while each incorrect answer will be deducted with 1 mark.
